A Clinical and Mycological Studies of Superficial Fungal Diseases (¥²)



Abstract
Authors performed clinical and mycological studies of superficial fungal diseases of 692 out-patients who have visited the Department of Dermatology, College of Medicine, Chung Ang University, from July, 1982 to June, 1983.
The results were as follows;
1) The incidence of superficial fungal diseases was 20.0% (692) of total 3,453 out-patients. 2) The superficial fungal diseases shown high incidence in third decade(30.3%) and fourth decade (23.9%) .
3) The ratio of male to female was 1.7 : 1(436 : 256). Tinea cruris was highly predominant in male, the ratio of male to female was 18.5 : 1(148 : 8).
4) The monthly prevalence of superficial fungal diseases was high in July (14. 7%), August (15.6%) and June (11.3%).
5) The incidence of superficial fungal diseases were 32.2% (Tinea pedis), 22.5% (Tinea cruris), 10.8% (Tinea versicolor), 7.7% (Onychomycosis), 6.4% (Tinea corporis) and 2.0% (Tinea capitis).
6) Coexisting fungal infections were found in 158 patients (22.8%), and the cases of Tinea pedis with Onychomycosis were most common.
7) Positive rate of KOH scraping was 60.8% and positive rate of culture on ordinary Sabouraud¢¥s dextrose agar media was 39.5%.
8) Trichophyton rubrurn(54.1% ), Candida albicans(33.5%), Trichophyton ferrugineum(6.2 %), Trichophyton mentagrophytes(5. 8%) and Epidermophyton floccosum(0.4%) were isolated in superficial fungal diseases.
